Today I lucked out at the Re-Store (Habitat for Humanity's thrift store for home supplies) and got this little gem:
It's probably worth about $20 in good condition, so perhaps I overpaid, but they're a good cause. I also got some clear fir trim for $2.50 so it balances out.
More info after the break!
At first I thought it was a model 90, but closer investigation showed it was a 9C.
The C suffix is for Corrugated. This is the sole, actually not in bad shape.
At first I thought the sad face on the price tag was because the cap iron was cracked, but after removing it, we can see it's supposed to be like that. I guess the sad face was because it was rusty.
I recently got a bead blaster and put it to good use today, blasting away the surface rust. I have the cap iron submerged in "Evapo-Rust" since it has more nooks and crannies to deal with. It will probably get blasted too so that I can repaint it.
The model number.
Detail of the plane iron branding. The blade needs a serious regrind, it is not square at all.
